Riley and Tanner’s Intentional Destination Elopement in Banff

Riley and Tanner’s choice to elope in the breathtaking landscapes of Banff was not just about escaping the hustle of a traditional wedding; it was a deeply personal journey, a celebration of love in its purest form. Their day was meticulously planned to resonate with who they are as individuals and as a couple, avoiding what didn’t align and focusing solely on their bond! The serene beauty of Banff, with its majestic mountains and tranquil lakes, served as the perfect backdrop for their intimate destination elopement and picturesque moments.

Riley & Tanner’s Destination Elopement in Banff

Their day began with the simple joys of preparation, a reflection of their laidback personalities, with Tanner tending to their beloved pups by taking them to doggy daycare and Riley embracing the morning calm. They got ready for their elopement together at The Juniper Hotel before heading to Bow Lake, where they hosted a short ceremony and ring exchange. The other worldly scenic beauty of the lake was truly the perfect spot to start off such an intimate and personalized day. And, of course, we just had to spend some time adventuring around Bow Lake to snap a few photos and let them enjoy the fluidity of their timeline!

Not only did I have the privilege of photographing their destination elopement, but I also was able to write and perform their ceremony since I’m ordained! This was extra special and intentional because both Riley and Tanner expressed that they didn’t want to plan their wedding day around other people’s expectations. Instead, they wanted an elopement just for them, which meant keeping it a complete secret from their family and friends.

A Timeline Personalized By Them

Riley and Tanner’s adventure continued to Waterfowl Lakes Campgrounds for heartfelt vows, followed by celebratory champagne and casual bagel sandwiches, only emphasizing the relaxed and joyous atmosphere of the day. We drove through the Lake Minnewanka Scenic Drive and stopped plenty of times for photos along the way, highlighting their love against the grandeur of nature. Then once we were done celebrating and creating memories in the area, we spent the last of our  time together at Banff Ave Brewing Co. pub for drinks and a few more photos before Riley and Tanner left for their own private dinner as husband and wife.

The story certainly didn’t end there – we had to document their time in Banff with their pups, too! So the next morning, I met up with these two lovers once more for a short and sweet session with the dogs. It was the perfect end to the first of many chapters of their married life together!
