Romantic Engagement Session in Lyon, France

Adventuring around the streets of Lyon with Lindsey + Tyler was nothing short of a dream come true; truly, all I want in this life is to be able to explore charming French cities with incredible couples and their adorable dogs, camera in hand. Is that really too much to ask? I hope you have as much fun looking through this gorgeous, oh-so-romantic engagement session in Lyon, France as I did being a part of it!

Lindsey + Tyler’s Lyon Engagement Session

The most badass couple (ft. Ferguson, the star of the show)

I’ll never get over the fact that I get to work with the coolest people ever, and that I somehow always manage to connect with couples that have the best vibes. Lindsey + Tyler are such badass humans individually, but together they are an absolute powerhouse of a duo! Lindsey plays for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team as well as Olympique Lyonnais Feminine, a professional soccer (football) club based in Lyon—hence the Lyon engagement session. Tyler’s a part of the soccer world too, doing analytics and scouting for teams, so these two are truly the most perfect pair!

Now don’t get me wrong; taking pictures of Lindsey + Tyler was wonderful, but the highlight of the day miiiiight have been when their pup Ferguson joined us. He was so chill and rocked the hell out of his vest; it was easy to see why they love their little Frenchie so dang much. Ferguson, you are the best good boy and deserve all the treats in the world!

P.S. I know you might want to check Lindsey out at this point if you’re a sports fan, in which case you can follow along with her badassery on Instagram @lindseyhoran10, but no judgement if Ferguson is your priority right now. He’s on Instagram, too, @sirfergyhoran and his feed is filled with photos of him in the cutest little dog costumes + with his parents.

A romantic adventure through the streets of Lyon

Anyway, enough dog content for now (as if there could ever be enough—I’ll come back to him later): let’s get onto the rest of the session! Because Lindsey + Tyler are living in Lyon right now, we figured what better place to take their engagement photos than around the city, in all the charming little alleyways and along the beautiful streets? Lyon is seriously such a beautiful city, with rich history and all sorts of stunning medieval + Renaissance architecture that’ll blow you away the moment you see it. It’s the most unique mix of old and new, and laid-back and lively; really just the best of both worlds, which made it an incredible engagement session location! We were able to take advantage of that romantic, old-world feel, as well as capture the vibrance of the more modern aspects of the area. It created a super beautiful and dynamic variety in Lindsey + Tyler’s gallery, I’m obsessed!

Dreamy engagement photos at the Lyon Botanical Garden

Some of my favorite photos from their Lyon engagement session have to be the ones we took at the Lyon Botanical Garden, otherwise known as the Jardin botanique de Lyon; and also known as the Jardin botanique du Parc de la Tête d’Or. This botanical garden provided such an enchanting backdrop for Lindsey + Tyler’s engagement photos, with over 60,000 square feet of greenhouses, 16,000 different plant species, and lush greenery galore. The greenhouse itself has such a unique arched shape, and so do the smaller buildings around it, which looked so fabulous behind these two and in the slightly moody, overcast lighting we had. Inside the greenhouse was absolute magic; there was more greenery than we knew what to do with, which went seamlessly with the warm neutrals that Lindsey + Tyler wore! Are they models or soccer players/professionals, we’ll never know.

Breathtaking views of the Saône

After strolling through the botanical garden, we made our way back outside to explore the streets of Lyon. The overcast sky was giving us the most delicious, gentle light everywhere we went, and looked so perfectly dramatic against the views of the Saône River! We did have a little bit of blue sky peeking out here and there, but really, these two made the best of the clouds and the gray; overcast lighting is just as magical as sunlight in its own unique way, I promise. Ferguson had a blast walking around the grass when we headed down by the water, and they even dressed him up in the cutest little plaid sweater. Are you kidding me?! The cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

Tips for bringing your dog to your engagement session

Speaking of Ferguson, I wanted to include a few tips for you about how to bring your dog to your engagement session! Ferguson was so well-behaved and made for the perfect little third wheel, so I don’t blame you if he’s making you want to bring your own pup to your session. Here are a few important tricks in order to make sure that the experience is as stress-free as possible for everyone involved.

  1. Make sure there is someone who can help hold the pup! I will try to bring an assistant when I can, but having someone else to hold the leash and help get the pups attention is so important.
  2. Don’t stress about what your dog’s face looks like! I will do my best to have your pup look at my camera. What happens if you are the one stressing about what your dog looks like is they look cute and perfect, and you look frustrated or in between smiles. I promise we will get at least one photo of y’all smiling at the camera. But the very best photos are when you are connecting with your partner and your pup is doing their thang!
  3. Reward them with their favorite treats or toys! Trust me, they deserve it. And they know that.

I had the best time walking around Lyon with these three. I don’t think I’ll everrrrr get over the photos we took together! It was nearly impossible to choose only a portion of the photos we took to share here, so I hope you can see all the fun we had.
